Spring Cleanse

Since this is the year of “more”, I’m happy to report I’ve already been on 2 trips and heading on my 3rd next week. I love traveling, getting out of my routine and seeing new places. It’s always been a wish of mine to see the Cherry Blossoms in DC. I was lucky enough to able to head East a few weeks ago and they did not disappoint. The weather was beautiful and it looked like cotton candy everywhere.

It was so fun to explore a new city and one of the best reasons is to see what other restaurants are up to and to try the local foodie favorites. Georgetown was darling and I see they love their acai bowls. Plus we made a pit stop in Philadelphia to the famous Reading Market where I got to try a Philly Cheesesteak. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I mean, it was a good sandwich but I truly don’t crave that kind of food and am happy that I actually prefer the healthy stuff. I’d much rather eat vegetables and things that are good for my body and don’t make me feel like a sluggish monster. It was then that I decided it was time to do another cleanse soon. I started my year off on the right foot, now I was going to start my spring off on the right foot, taking care of my body. It’s always a good idea to reset your digestive system. Since I’m heading to Arizona next week, I thought it was perfect timing to recharge my body.

The whole gang is heading to sunny Arizona next week to enjoy the sun, Sedona, some of my favorite friends and to reunite Ruby and her bestie. After doing a cleanse, you definitely feel lighter but It’s not about losing weight. It’s about taking care of your body and paying attention to what you put into it. It’s a reaffirmation for clean eating as a lifestyle and it just makes me appreciate my body even more.

Happy birthday to me

So remember when I said I want this to be the year of more? Well I think I’m doing a pretty good job living my best life. Today is my birthday and I’m spending the day in Chicago with my man and a couple of Radke sisters doing the things I love. I’m going to shop at thrift stores and chillax during the day, go to my favorite restaurant Girl and the Goat and then go see my girl Erykah Badu with my other girl Maggie on Saturday. I’ve been hustling like a maniac all week so I could enjoy a few days off because to me, living my best life means balance, throwing myself into everything I do, motherhood, marriage and momtrepreneurship lol - I’m loving my life and am grateful for all the blessings I have and excited to turn 38.

OK on another note, I’m all about flushing toxins this year (literally) and have done our 3 day cleanse a couple of times already this month because of how they make me feel. I started seeing all this info about the benefits of drinking celery juice every morning too and now I’m obsessed with how it makes me feel and look. I’ve been having straight up 100% liquid celery every morning because it makes me feel like a young cat. I swear my skin has never looked better and I feel amazing. Thank god I bought a juicer (Crate & Barrel) for making our cleanses and smoothies so I could discover my new celery obsession. I like to give my body a break from working so hard to digest everything I eat. Has anyone else started juicing this year?

In addition to our cleanses which have been wildly popular, we’re going to start offering smoothies. Smoothies (and juices for that matter) take a ton of ingredients and they’re messy to make so we’ll be doing all the dirty work for you. Available for purchase $9 each or 4 for $32, delivery on Fridays. They’re great because you just keep them in your freezer and they’re grab and go then on Monday, you can take it straight from the freezer to work and by lunch, it’s ready to be eaten. You can add more fruit, nuts, cacao nibs, coconut flakes etc and they become these pretty little works of art. Plus they’re super filling and can be used as meal replacement. Convenience was key for me to make it part of my morning routine.

Treat yo' elves

Christmas is my favorite time of the year. I love entertaining and finding the perfect gifts for my family and friends. Gifts don't have to be expensive, they just need to come from the heart. My favorite way to give is to think about some of the gifts I’ve loved and received in previous years and try to recreate them in a more personal way. This year everyone is getting a collection of homemade items mixed in with some items from some local shops I can't stop going to.

gift baskets.jpeg

URSA is a Bayview shop with the best candles, jewelry, pillows, blankets, incense...everything. The owner has amazing style, loves plants, and always wears a smile.

HOMESPUN COLLECTION is an online shop built by 2 local babes that believe we should fill our homes with simple, beautiful, thoughtfully-made products. They love meaningful items and a clean and cozy atmosphere. I literally want to buy/gift every single item they sell.

Along with gifts purchased from these shops, we (my team of amazing females that keep me afloat and happy everyday...I do nothing alone :) made some lovely items with our hands and hearts.

Blend and Cleanse

CLEANSE.jpeg

A couple of weeks ago, I did a cleanse with a few of my clients. For me, the best part was that I felt lighter and healthier. I didn’t have to think about what to eat or drink all day because it was all right there ready for me. The flavors in the soups, juices and vinaigrettes are fresh and vibrant. I drank no alcohol or coffee and swapped it with peppermint tea morning and night instead. And, bonus, I noticed afterwards that my appetite was smaller and I needed less food to feel satisfied. It’s always good to do a little recharge and reset your digestive system.

Starting today until Sat 12/29, you will be able to order the 3-day cleanse for delivery or pickup on JANUARY 2ND. Make sure to add delivery to your cart. Pick up at Stone Bank Farm Market in Oconomowoc.

murder mystery tour is waiting to take you away

10 tips for throwing a budget savvy dinner party for 20 people

dinner table.jpg

Last weekend, I had a blast planning a Murder Mystery Dinner Tour in East Troy for a fantastic group of people. Here's what I did to make things easier:

1. Use flatware and plates you have on-hand. Not everything has to match perfectly, in fact it's sometimes better if it doesn't. We mismatched clear and white plates for service and used 3 different flatware sets...gold, silver, and more silver -different shape. Nobody cared and everyone thought that table setting was lovely.

2. Use nature. We pulled leaves, branches, and flowers from the park. A weeping willow tree is the perfect companion for bright, happy yellow flowers.

dinner party.jpg

3. Have lots of bread and easy dips/tapenades on the table to start. Store-bought is fine as long as you garnish and make beautiful. This helps fill people up and gets them drinking and laughing together.

rolls.jpg
dips.jpg

4. Always plate the food if you are trying to control portions. I plated the salad, dinner, and dessert so I knew that everyone was receiving the same amount and no one got seconds....still hungry?? Eat more bread :)

salad.jpg

5. Potatoes should be the starch of choice for any dinner party. They are affordable, delicious and go a long way.

6. Slow cook meats. They stay moist, are always perfectly cooked and falling apart with flavor and yumminess. For chicken and salmon, cook to temperature and add a pan sauce to help add flavor and keep moist during serving.

beef.jpg
salmon.jpg

7. Say vegetable medley on the menu. You can buy vegetables that look the best the day of the party. Don't limit yourself to anything concrete.

menu.jpg

8. Make a menu that is easily Gluten & Dairy-free. That way, you don't have anyone chiming in last minute with special requests that you can't accommodate. So many things are naturally dairy and gluten-free. I always use vegan butter and olive oil when cooking vegetables and searing meat and I use almond milk in place of cow milk. Feel free to do the same. I promise nobody notices.

9. When it comes to dessert, don't give a choice. Plate a small scoop of whatever you have to offer. Only crazy people will turn down dessert. Don't give them that option. Dessert is the highlight of life. EAT IT!

dessert crop.png

10. Make sure to have fun and enjoy yourself when entertaining. If you have found that you are someone that can't relax while putting on a show, then hire someone else (me) to do it for you.
